Glamour Magazine announces its 6th essay contest.  There is no fee to enter the contest.  The essay selected will appear in Glamour and the author will win $5,000 plus a meeting with a top literary agent.  Submissions must be between 2,500-3,500 words and postmarked by December 31st, 2008.  Go to glamour.com for more details.

The international journal of literary nonfiction, The Truth About the Fact , is calling for submissions.  Writing pieces should be between 1,000-5,000 words.  Essays, memoirs, commentaries, and narrative nonfiction poems will all be considered.  The deadline is Decembert 31st, 2008.  For more details, visit thetruthaboutthefact.com .

The purpose of this book is to highlight the great points and people of North Long Beach through creative writing and visual art. The book will contain 50 short stories and 50 matching pieces of art about living, working and playing in North Long Beach.

Their guidelines claim that they do not to publish fiction. But the ever expanding definitions of poetry can always stretch wide enough to include various forms of writing.

If you don’t find that your writing has enough poetic elements to qualify, take a piece of flash fiction or memoir and play with lines and breaks until you find that what you have before you is, indeed, poetry.

Seneca Review’s reading period is from September 1st to May 1st. And the editors promise to respond within 12 weeks.

Summer Literary Seminars (www.sumlitsem.org) is announcing its annual 2009 unified literary contest, held this year in affiliation with Fence Magazine (www.fenceportal.org).

Fiction and poetry contest winners will have their work published in Fence, as well as the participating literary journals in Canada, Russia, Kenya, Italy, and Lithuania. Additionally, they will have the choice of attending (airfare, tuition, and housing included) any one of the SLS-09 programs - in Vasto, Abruzzo, Italy (May 15-30); Vilnius-Nida, Lithuania (July 20-August 4); or Nairobi-Lamu, Kenya (December).

Second-place winners will receive a full tuition waiver for the program of their choice, and third-place winners will receive a 50% tuition discount.

A number of select contest participants, based on the overall strength of their work, will be offered tuition scholarships, as well, applicable to the
SLS-09 programs.

Contest Deadline: February 28, 2009.

There is a $15 reading fee.
